November 4, 2014 - Traditional Kanienkehaka Naming vs. Ontario

On todays pre-recorded edition of Tetewatharen, we welcome in three Community Memebers who are all Mothers. They are bringing to attention their efforts to get the province of Ontario to recognize our rights as Onkwehonwe and to be able to name our children in a traditional mannor. One of the main issues is that our people name our children with a single name, traditionally and the province will not recognize these names.

Todays topic of discussion is the Mohawk Council of Akwesasne, Akwesasne Tobacco Manufacturing and Products Law. Today we look a little bit at the history of the tobacco law. Due to outside concerns, MCA has been developing its own legislation to assist in efforts to resolve issues beginning in the 1990's involving large tobacco companies.
