THE AKWESASNE COMMUNICATIONS SOCIETY / CKON OFFERS THE FOLLOWING EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIY:

  • Experienced Finance Officer 
    This position is under the direct supervision and direction of the CKON General Manager.  Work hours are from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday thru Friday.
  1. Maintain financial records and establish and maintain various CKON radio accounts using manual and computerized bookkeeping software systems.
  2. Post journal entries and reconcile accounts, prepare trial balance of books, maintain general ledgers and prepare financial statements.
  3. Calculate and prepare checks for ADP payroll processing and prepare some manual payroll checks, as well as checks for operational expenses.
  4. Reconcile personnel leave forms and enter data into Excel program.
  5. Prepare financial, statistical and accounting reports; including preparation of year-end reports.
  6. Coordinate annual audit activities and work closely with CKON auditors.
  7. Coordinate with the General Manager on all requests for financial donations.
  8. Work with the CKON Sales Representative(s) and Traffic Coordinator to ensure sales contracts have been fulfilled and all appropriate approval of sales contracts have been secured.
  9. Record, assign number and sign-off on all CKON purchase orders for the purchase of goods and services.
  10. Prepare weekly and monthly bingo reports.
  11. Participate in weekly bingo night activities and participate in the CKON Radio Bingo Committee.
  12. Order all bingo cards as required through designated bingo card distributor.
  13. Ensure front desk has adequate funds to make change for bingo card sales and to make change for those paying for advertisements.  Cash drawer transactions must be reconciled.
  14. Attend quarterly Akwesasne Communication Society monthly board meetings and present month financial and bingo reports.
  15. Obtain signatures for all forms as required.
  16. Collect mail from Cornwall, Kanatakon and U.S. mail post office boxes.
  17. Prepare Records of Employment when required.
  18. Monitor the community fund account to ensure quick turn-around for money to go back to the community.

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  1. A 4-year degree in Finance with 3-years of work experience in a finance office or a two-year degree with 5-years of work experience in a finance office.
  2. Must have a valid Canadian Social Insurance Card.
  3. Must possess strong clerical and word processing, spreadsheet, database skills and familiarity with accounting software programs.

ABILITIES:

  1. Must maintain confidential files, both paper and electronic, incoming/outgoing correspondence, files and projects.
  2. Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  3. Must be organized with the ability to work independently.
  4. Must handle telephone and reception duties from time to time so strong customer service skills are required.
