ONLINE PLEBISCITE VOTING NOW UNDERWAY
TERRITORY OF AKWESASNE- The Mohawk Council of Akwesasne’s Kawehno:ke Corridor Plebiscite is now underway. Online voting began at 9 am this morning. The plebiscite is seeking to gauge the community’s opinion regarding the future of the Kawehno:ke corridor. The plebiscite asks two questions:
(1) Do you support the demolition of the abandoned Customs Buildings (Kawehno:ke) using labour and services procured in Akwesasne?
And,
(2) Do you support the removal of the Akwesasne Peoples Fire buildings from the corridor, no later than the demolition of the Customs Buildings?
The online voting component of the plebiscite requires a Personal Identification Number (PIN), which must be obtained from the Chief Plebiscite Officer Leona Benedict. She can be reached by calling 613-551-1622.
Once a pin number has been obtained community members can access the online voting page at http://akwesasne.simplyvoting.com. You will need your PIN number along with your date of birth and status number in order to access the voting section. The online voting component of the plebiscite is open from today, April 14 at 9 am until Friday, April 25 at 12 p.m.
